Information Security Awareness Workshop

For

School Children

(6^th December 2008)

DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING,
NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY KARNATAKA – SURATHKAL

National Institute of Technology Karnataka-Surathkal in association with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Hyderabad & Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Govt. of India ,New Delhi conducted a one day workshop on 6th December,2008 for School Children of NITK English Medium High School and the NITK Kannada Medium High School. The theme of the workshop was Information Security Education & Awareness for targeting School Children of Class 10th.

The Schools for the workshop were selected based on the suggestions of the Director, as it was conducted on a pilot basis. The organizing committee after going through the syllabus felt that internet awareness is more useful for this workshop. Hence NITK schools were selected to conduct the workshop on pilot basis.

This is the first workshop in the series of many of this kind to be organized at National Institute of Technology Karnataka ,Surathkal. Around 73 students participated in the workshop. The workshop was held from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

The program was a big success and National Institute of Technology Karnataka ,Surathkal would be conducting this kind of workshop more in number with different target audience.

Objective

The objective of this workshop is to generate Information Security Awareness among Indian
School Children and to enable them to participate safely in Information Society / Internet.

Program Content
The module is designed in such manner to make people exposed to various areas like
    -   Information Security Awareness Issues Presentation
    -   To make aware proper use of Internet.

Methodology
    -   Framework development through Power Point Presentation
    -   Quiz on related topics
    -   Practical- running of tools.
    -   Setting up of Internet

Duration:
      One day ( 6th December, 2008)

Batch Strength
       73 students participated in this workshop

Target Audience
      10th Standard Students

Deliverables
       Kit consist of Posters, Brochures, Mouse Pad and CD containing lots of study materials,
       Video clipping and e-books.
