Proceedings of the workshop

 

The chief guest of the workshop was a renowned personality in technical education, Dr. Ing Y.V.Rao, Director NIT-Warangal. He has served NITK Surathkal in  the capacity of HOD of Mining Engineering, Division Chairman of Civil and Applied Mechanics, and as Director. In his keynote he addressed the need of  Internet and Information Security for the School Children. He advised the children to make proper utilization of the computing resources for the betterment of  society.

Prof. S. Battacharya, Director , NIT Rourkela stressed the need for securing information. He is of the opinion that, only data theft do not cause any security  problem, rather the data with semantics is a cause of concern. Hence Information (Data + Semantics) security is the primary concern. He also talked about different security threats like malware, phishing, viruses, SQL injection and spyware. He requested the children to be aware of different threats and vulnerabilities to an information system .

Prof. Sandeep Sancheti, Director, NITK-Surathkal delivered the presidential address. He advised the children to make use of the different facilities of NITK to gain more knowledge. NITK has started an internet facility for the school children in its campus. He requested the students to use this facility to
improve their knowledge in the are of Information Technology.

Mr. K.Vinay Kumar, H.O.D., Department of Computer Engineering welcomed the gathering and introduce the chief guest Dr.Y.V.Rao , Director, NIT, Warangal. He also introduced Mr. R.Dileep, ASP, Mangalore to the gathering.

Mr. Alwyn Roshan Pais, Coordinator, ISEA Project gave a brief information regarding ISEA Project at NITK-Surathkal.

The participants were extremely satisfied and happy about this workshop. The students enthusiastically participated in this workshop. A feedback session was arranged after the end of the workshop and the results were very encouraging and they would like to have more workshops of this type.
