Now the responsibility of parents is increasing day by day on their children to make safe and smart online decisions as the children having the critical thinking skills and can play an important role.

The following tips will help you work with and build a good relationship between home and school to raise awareness and educate adults about children’s Internet usage.

Educate parents

Conduct Awareness workshops for parents in Schools and build confidence among school and parents to take them into safe and smart online activity in the Internet.
Distribute the Information Security Awareness brochures from www.infosecawareness.in and guide them to register online for newsletter.

Set up a technology committee in your school

If possible, After conducting Awareness workshops, create a committee of teachers and interested parents to be responsible for
  • Assessing about latest risks
  • The required necessary tips for safe Internet
  • To build an appropriate policy for the same
  • Developing a plan for continuous Information Security Awareness among the School children, Teachers and Parents
  • Any issues, they may post in forums of www.infosecawareness.in

Build a class or school Web site/ Blog

Make sure parents are involved in decisions regarding school or classroom Web sites. Parents should have input into what kind of information will be posted on the site - in particular, personally identifiable information about students.
They can make links to www.infosecwareness.in or the content can be requested to keep their web site

Organize an Internet safety day or week at your school

Use the event to inform parents and your community about the benefits and risks of the Internet for children. Organize hands-on activities for students that will emphasize the positive use of the Net while highlighting issues of concern such as cyber bullying and plagiarism. For example:
  • Create a school blog where students can profile interesting class projects.
  • Launch a mentoring program where older students work with students in younger grades to develop smart and safe surfing skills.
  • Develop, with input from students, "Netiquette Guidelines" to discourage cyber bullying and online harassment.
Send out a press release to local media so they will cover the launch of your Internet day or week.

Host an Information Security Awareness workshop

You can recommend the same committee to deliver the Information Security Awareness workshops for around school children and teachers. The workshop, which looks at key Internet issues related to children’ Internet use, includes a PowerPoint presentation, speaking notes, and a user guide with handouts for participants and is available from the www.infosecawareness.in
