May 31st :

Password is a key and it’s personal. So protect it.

  • Passwords protect your computer. So lock your computer using the passwords
  • Never share your passwords with anyone, even with administrator also
  • Do not note the passwords on paper, try to memorize it
  • Never reveal the password while you are speaking through telephone. Some of the persons like attackers may listen to your calls and trap your information
  • Check besides while entering the password , because some of the people sitting beside you may do shoulder surfing and get your information
  • Create strong passwords so that no one can identify it

May 30th :

Always clear the temporary file in your browser after their usage

  • Always clear the data in the cookies and temporary file folder from the browser after the usage
  • Always clear the cookies because the people who access the system after you may get your information, what you have browsed from cookies and he may use it for illegal purpose.
  • In Firefox to clear the temporary files Go to Tools–>Options–>Privacy, there is a section there called “Private Data”: by clicking on “clear now” button, you can wipe all your private data immediately. We can also set the settings to wipe your browsing history, temp files and other stuff automatically every time Firefox closes
  • In Internet Explorer to the files Go to Tools–>Internet Options–>in General tab click on Delete button which deletes all stored temporary files, history, cookies, saved passwords and web form information


May 29th :

Never reuse old password

  • Passwords acts like a barrier between the user and his personal information. So do not reveal your passwords to any one, even to the system administrator
  • Change your password every month
  • Never reuse the same password 
  • Never email your password to anyone including yourself


May 28th :

Disable auto login facility in your computer

  • With automatic logins enabled, anyone who can reboot your computer can get into your account
  • This feature permits other users to start your computer and to use the account that you establish to automatically log on.
  • If you turn on auto logon, becomes more convenient. However, using this feature can pose a security risk.
  • If you set a computer for automatic logon, anyone who can physically gain access to the computer can also gain access to everything that is on the computer, including any network or networks that the computer is connected to
  • To further protect your computer, we recommend disabling auto-login and must be password protected
  • For the security, make sure that every account on your machine has a password
  • Therefore, we recommend you disable automatic login.


May 27th :

Use password for your computer BIOS settings

  • Always one should use BIOS password to limit the access of your system by others
  • BIOS passwords are used to add some extra security to computers.
  • You can either set a password to prevent access to BIOS settings
  • But sometimes the extra security might become a pain when you forget the BIOS password or someone changes your system BIOS password intentionally
  • But there is no need to worry. There are many known ways to reset
  • If you set a password on your system, make sure you write it down in at least two places. If you lose the password you will be locked out of your own system
  • For most users, a password is unnecessary. In a shared office environment, it can be very helpful however, to control access to the PC.
  • The BIOS password must be of eight characters, most BIOS's are limited to eight characters unfortunately

Never save your password in computer

  • Never post your password on your computer monitor and under your keyboard.
  • Never save passwords in applications like E-mail, Web Authoring, Dialup, VPN etc.

Never talk about your password in front of others

  • You should not reveal your password in front of others because there may be chance of shoulder surfing
  • The sniffed password may be used illegally to gather your important data
  • Always password must be kept secret to avoid the loss of data
  • Never tell your password to your closed ones

Never reveal password on questionnaires or forums or blogs

  • Never reveal your password on questionnaires or forums or blogs.
  • A question nary a list of questions, usually printed, submitted for replies that can be analyzed for usable information.
  • But this can be also be misused if this information falls into the wrong hands like hackers.
  • Also never give your personal information like real names, passwords on forums or blogs.

The Password must be combination of numbers, letters and special characters

  • Always the password must be combination of all characters like $!sT#r@*123
  • The password should be more then eight letters
  • The password must be easy to remember but hard enough to guess
  • Very often you must change the password

The password should be minimum of eight (or) more characters in length

  • Use separate passwords for different transactions
  • Create strong passwords using combination of alphabets, numbers and special characters like @#$! %^&*~ ….etc.
  • It should be hard to guess but should be easy to remember
  • The strong password should be minimum of 8 characters (or) more characters length
  • If you keep weak password the strangers can guess the password by using different techniques like Brute force attack, Dictionary attack….etc
  • The password should not contain your personal information like your name , credit card details, date of birth, your spouse name ….etc
  • Don’t share your passwords with strangers
  • The persons who get your passwords may spoil, modify or delete your data.
  • Be care full while entering the passwords. Check any one is behind you while entering the password.


May 21st :

Use the password that is easy for you to remember and hard for others to guess

  • Create strong passwords which should be hard for others to guess.
  • Create strong passwords using combination of alphabets, numbers and special characters like @#$! %^&*~ ….etc.
  • Never use your personal information in your passwords.
  • Add complexity to your password by mixing uppercase, lower case and numbers.
  • Test the password whether it is strong or not using password checker.
  • Avoid repeated characters or sequences while creating the password.
  • Do not use Dictionary words.
  • Do not reveal your passwords to other (strangers).

Change your password regularly

  • If you ever worked inside a large company you remember that once every two months you would receive an internal email reminding you that your passwords were about to expire
  • The password should be at least 6 characters long and include both letters and numbers and should be easy for you to remember, but hard for others to guess.
  • Dictionary and brute force attacks on a web server from the internet, for example, lock out accounts for 20 minutes after 3 tries in 5 minutes.
  • An attacker who is able to obtain a password is not going to wait 90 days before using it, so changing passwords every 90, 180, 365 days is useless if the attacker obtains your password and uses it the next day.

Do not save your passwords in files or web browsers

  • When you visit a particular web site it will asks for your User Name and Password
  • And if you select save this password option then your password will be saved in the password list in that dialog box.
  • When you return to that Web site, your password information is not automatically entered.
  • So disable the password saving option in the web browsers.


May 18th :

If you suspect that others know your password, change it immediately

  • If your personal computer is used by someone besides yourself, please uncheck the option remember me on this computer.
  • Monitor your account regularly for changes. 
  • If you need to make up a password hint, don't use anything obvious. Think up a question that you're sure no one else knows.
  • Never email anyone your password, and most importantly, never respond to an email that is asking for your password.

Never divulge your password or account information to other users

  • Passwords are the key to many systems and applications. Your password helps to prove who you are, ensure your privacy, and protect the privacy of data you may have access to.
  • So you never divulge your password to any one. Ultimately you are the responsible for any loss of data
  • You have to maintain secrecy of your password and any account information
  • If you disclose your password and account information to other users it is easy to them to collect
  • Remember to sign out of your account once you are done with your work when you share the system

Follow hints for strong password to make the password stronger, ||*^eMy$iStEr

  • It's important to choose a strong password and protect it since there are many password-cracking programs readily available on the Internet and passwords are the key to access many computer systems or applications.
  • A strong password makes difficult to guess the password either through human guessing or the use of automated password cracking programs
  • Hints for strong password
  • Be at least 8 characters in length
  • Contain both upper and lowercase alphabetic characters (e.g. A-Z, a-z)
  • Have at least one numerical characters (e.g. 0-9)
  • Have at least one special character (e.g. ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) - _ + =)

Be sure that you don’t use personal identifiers in your password

  • Do not use personal identifiers related to you and your family, such as children, date of births, your pet name, your credit card number, your spouse name....etc while creating password
  • If you keep your password using your personal information, the attackers can hack the password easily by using different hacking methods like Brute force, Dictionary attack…and so on
  • Create a password which contains more than 8 characters.
  • Create strong password by using the combination of alphabets , special characters and numbers
  • Never write the passwords on paper, try to remember it.
  • Maintain separate password for different applications

The more random your password, the better secure of your information

  • The more random in nature your password is, the better as it makes it harder to crack
  • Create a password which contains more than 8 characters
  • Use different special characters like combination of alphabets, special characters and numbers for creating the password.
  • Change default passwords.
  • Do not give your password to any strangers
  • Change your password regularly
  • If multiple passwords are to be stored in a file on a computer, ensure the file is properly secured using encryption,

May 13th :

Avoid using words as password from dictionary words
  • Never use the dictionary words as passwords. Hackers will often try a dictionary attack initially.
  • A dictionary attack will try all the words in a dictionary of common words. Some people use the name of themselves, their kids or their pet then add the numbers 123 to the end for example; moti123.
  • This password is useless and would be cracked in minutes rather than hours. So make the password as harder as possible to guess and crack.
  • Instead of dictionary words, use combination of upper and lower case alphabets, numbers and special symbols. Also the lengthier the password, the harder it is to guess.

Never tell your password to anyone
  • The basic step for protecting your online privacy is by creating a safe password i.e., the password that is hard to guess and utmost care has to be taken to keep it safe.
  • Never tell your password to anyone including your dear ones, roommates, etc. and you should never send it to anyone through e-mail.
  • Be suspicious of any e-mail message that asks you to send personal identity information, especially your password, to verify that you are using an account that you own.
  • Never send personal identity information in response to such a request.Because a compromised password may put your own information at risk, so beware and never tell your password to anyone.

  • Never use your names, date of birth as your passwords because it becomes easy to crack the password
  • Always use the passwords with the combination of  special characters

Store the passwords on computer with the help of an encryption utility

  • Passwords must not be stored on a paper or computer because it becomes easy for others to know passwords
  • Passwords acts like a barrier between the user and personal information
  • Create passwords such that it can remember. This avoids the need to write passwords somewhere, which is not advisable
  • If remembering a password is difficult then store the passwords on computer using encryption utility
  • There are number of encryption utilities that help to store the password in the encrypted form which is difficult to guess

Do not reveal your passwords to any one, not even to the system administrator

Do not use same password that was used earlier.
  • When changing an account password, you should avoid reusing a previous password

When you suspect someone knows your password, change it immediately.
  • To confirm your identity, you’ll be prompted to answer a few questions. Once you’ve answered at least one of the questions, we’ll send you an email with instructions for changing your password.
  • If you don’t receive an email, make sure that the email address listed on your account is correct. Then, check the spam filtering settings on your email account to see if the filter is preventing you from receiving email.
  • If your account was compromised, the contact information may have been changed without your permission.

May 01st :

Always use latest updated browsers for internet transactions
  • Make sure that your PC and browser are updated with patches before going for internet transactions.
  • Log out from your online transactions immediately after you have completed. Just don’t close the browser directly. After every internet transaction make sure that you log out properly.
  • Do not use your browser for Internet transactions, if you are not sure whether it is secure or not. Use the Automated Update feature of your Operating System.
  • If you want to go to other websites linked via your internet banking website, first check the privacy and policy information of that website before conducting Internet transactions.
  • Frequently check your account balance and account statement to make sure that no unauthorized withdrawal has taken place.
