Workshop on cyber crime for police personnel

Coimbatore: Office-bearers of the Cyber Society of India conducted a workshop for officers and personnel of the Coimbatore City Police on cyber crime.

Led by Chairman R. Ramamurthi, society office-bearers V. Rajendran, B. Muthukumar, J. Prasanna, A.P. Chandrasekhar and S.N. Ravichandran conducted the training.

They demonstrated the cyber crime modes through a slide show presentation. Officers in the rank of Inspectors, Assistant Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner numbering nearly hundred attended the session.

City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu addressed the officers on the increasing challenges in the form of modus operandi of offenders in cyber crime. Deputy Commissioners of Police P. Nagarajan (Law and Order), N. Kamini (Crime and Traffic) and E.S. Uma (Headquarters) took part.

The patterns of cyber crimes such obscene and obnoxious SMS and phone calls, hacking e-mail accounts, fraudulent online transactions, hacking confidential credit card/debit card and also bank account details and e-mail threats were discussed.

The tools for investigating such cases were also explained to the police officers.
